Lepicol is a multi-fibre source product for help maintaining and sustaining healthy bowels. Lepicol has been formulated with 3 main ingredients to help support the cleansing and regulation of the bowels in a gentle, natural way suitable for regular everyday use.

Lepicol contains 3 main ingredients:

1. Psyllium Husk Fibre

Fibre is a key part of our dietary intake to ensure we maintain a healthy bowel. Not eating enough fibre can lead to digestive problems such as constipation and other chronic digestive disorders. The health benefits of fibre are well known, and the current European recommendation for the daily intake of fibre is 25g - something that many of us lack with the modern diet. Therefore, providing high quality fibre supplements in the diet will bring many digestive advantages.

The main fibre source within Lepicol is psyllium husk (Plantago ovata). Psyllium husks are a great fibre supplement as it is able to normalise stool size by being water retentive and, at the same time, forms a soft gel which eases the stool along the lower digestive tract ready for evacuation. Psyllium husks have the advantage of being much gentler than some common fibre supplements (such as wheat or bran), many of which could irritate a sensitive bowel.

2. Inulin

Inulin is a fibre that is sourced from chicory root. Inulin is not broken down by the body - it is fermented by the live bacteria in the gut to support the growth of live bacteria.

3. Probiotic Bacteria

Lepicol contains five strains of live bacteria. Your digestive tract is home to trillions of gut bacteria that aid in digestion, help prevent a pathogenic bacteria over-growth, and have an impact on your immune system. Keeping a balanced gut microflora helps to ensure that the environment in your digestive tract is stable and goes a long way to aid in your health and well-being.

About Lepicol

The Lepicol (Healthy Bowels) Company was founded by Peter Jackson back in 1999. He developed the Lepicol formulation due to concern for his own bowel health, because of his personal experience with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Protexin acquired Lepicol in 2011. Protexin are dedicated to producing innovative research-based products of the highest quality. Proexin unrivalled experience in manufacturing live bacteria products for over 25 years, together with quality assurance and accreditation, is second to none.

Protexin have a full traceability programme and all raw material and finished product batches are subject to quality control analysis to ensure the best possible quality throughout the production cycle and for the whole shelf life of the product.

Our strains are all fermented individually on a batch by batch basis, carried out in modern machinery that meets with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice, and operated by highly trained staff. Each strain is crypoprotected and freeze dried individually, which aids in its survival through the low acidity of the stomach, and allows storage of the finished product at normal room temperature. All Lepicol products are guaranteed to the end of their shelf life, having undergone stability testing under controlled relative humidity and temperature conditions.

All of our bacterial strains are fully identified and safe to use. The strains are all lodged at the National Collection for Industrial, Marine and Food Bacteria (a national culture collection bank) based in Aberdeen, UK, where we can ensure the safe reproducibility of the strain without genetic shift. The strains we use are also considered safe by the European Qualified Presumption of Safety Committee.
