Winsor & Newton Series 7 - The World's Finest Water Colour Brush
More than any other tool, the brush is a direct and fluid extension of the artist’s hand, eye and expressive vision. It is with that principle in mind that Winsor & Newton has crafted fine artists’ brushes for over 150 years, earning a reputation for making the world’s finest from the very best raw materials. The standards of quality for this brush were set in 1866, when her majesty Queen Victoria gave orders that Winsor & Newton, holders of the Royal Warrant, be commanded to produce the very finest water colour brushes in her favourite size the No. 7. The resulting brush known as the Series 7 and the standards of quality set in 1866 are the same.
There are three essential qualities that define the finest water colour brush: Point, Snap and Spring and Flow Control. Since 1866, the handmade Series 7 has proven itself to be the standard –bearer in all those qualities, offering a rapier-like point, perfectly balanced spring with extraordinary capacity and flow control.
Point
Every Series 7 brush should come to a crisp point and maintain that point during use.
Snap and Spring
The brush snaps back crisply into shape with the right degree of spring to allow the artist superior control with a degree of give and take between the brush and painting surface.
Flow Control – Speed and control of painting
The larger belly of the Series 7 brush hold more colour than other sable brushes and this makes applying washes so much easier. Along with the colour carry capacity the Series 7 comes with such a fine point too. The same fine line can be achieved with a size 10 as it would be with a size 0 as the reason for the larger size brush is when you want a reservoir of colour.

CLEANING INSTRUCTION TIPS FOR ART BRUSHES
1. For brushes used with oils, dip brush in household vegetable oil and wipe free of excess colour and oil with a soft, lint-free rag.
2. Brushes used with acrylic or water colour should be wiped clean on a lint-free rag and then rinsed under running water.
3. Clean brushes gently with mild soap or Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner. Cold water for sable, luke warm for hog and synthetic. Swirl brush against a smooth, shallow surface (never in the palm of your hand, especially with brushes that may still contain oil or solvent).
4. Wash and rinse until water runs clear from the brush. Take particular care to ensure that the heel of the brush is clean. Some pigments may stain the brush slightly, but this will not affect the performance or life of the hair.
5. Gently re-shape the head and allow to dry.
6. For brushes caked with dried acrylic or oil colour, use Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer.
