Winsor & Newton have been producing Designers Gouache since 1935 and to this day we continue to offer the finest artists' gouache range available. Designers Gouache colours are a range of opaque water colours, mainly used by designers, illustrators and commercial artists to create vibrant illustrations in solid colour. Gouache is also widely used in fine art as an opaque water colour.
Today the Designers Gouache range benefits from significant developments in technology and is smoother, flatter, more opaque and more brilliant than ever before. Ultramarine is a rich deep transparent blue. It was created by French chemist Guimet in 1828 as a synthetic but chemically identical alternative to the expensive pigment derived from Lapis Lazuli.
There are 89 colours available, including Cadmium Free variants.
The Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache range consists of colours from Series 1, 2, 3 and 4, varying in pigment rarity.

Directions
Gouache is an opaque water-based paint which, in addition to its colour pigment, contains a white pigment. Gouache is applied, with water, to a support such as water colour paper. The pigment fixes to the support upon evaporation of the water.
Gouache dries very quickly and, unlike acrylic, can be reactivated with water. It is possible to overpaint dry gouache with lighter or darker colours, without activating the colour underneath, although this should be done carefully.
Brushes used to apply gouache paint should be cared for in the same manner as, and need only mild soap and water to clean them after use.
