Honey & Spreads

Our Honey & Spreads range covers everything from raw and Manuka honey through to fruit jams, syrup and treacle, plus tahini and other savoury spreads. Whether you're stocking the breakfast table or the baking cupboard, you'll find the right jar for the job.

Shop by Type

  • Honey — raw, clear and Manuka varieties, each with a different grading system worth understanding before you buy
  • Jam & fruit spreads — traditional and reduced-sugar options
  • Syrup & treacle — golden syrup, maple syrup and treacle for baking and topping
  • Tahini & savoury spreads — sesame tahini, yeast extract and other non-sweet options

Choosing the Right Honey

  • Raw honey is minimally processed and keeps more of its natural texture and flavour
  • Manuka honey is graded by UMF or MGO — higher numbers indicate a higher concentration of the compound used for grading, and price increases accordingly
  • Standard clear honey is the most versatile option for everyday cooking and baking

Comparing Manuka grades, or wondering where tahini fits if you're expecting something sweet? Our FAQs below cover both.

Frequently Asked Questions

Manuka honey is graded using one of two systems, and the numbers can be confusing if you haven't bought it before.

UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) is the older, more established grading system, typically shown as a number between 5 and 20+. It measures several natural markers together, including the compound methylglyoxal.

MGO (Methylglyoxal) grades honey by the direct concentration of methylglyoxal in milligrams per kilogram, shown as numbers like MGO 100+ up to MGO 800+ or higher.

Roughly, the two systems line up as follows:

  • UMF 5+ is broadly comparable to MGO 80–100+
  • UMF 10+ is broadly comparable to MGO 250–300+
  • UMF 15+ is broadly comparable to MGO 500+

Neither system is "better" — they're just different ways of measuring similar things, and different brands use different scales. Higher numbers on either scale mean a higher concentration of the graded compound, and price rises accordingly. If you're comparing two jars using different systems, converting roughly using the guide above will help you compare like for like.

Raw honey and regular (often labelled "clear" or "pure") honey come from the same starting point, but they're processed differently.

Raw honey is strained but not heated or filtered as heavily, so it keeps more of its natural pollen, texture and slightly cloudy appearance. It's more likely to crystallise over time — this is normal and doesn't mean it's gone off.

Regular honey is typically warmed and filtered for a smoother, clearer finish that stays liquid for longer on the shelf.

Whether the extra cost of raw honey is worth it comes down to preference rather than a clear right answer:

  • If you prefer a thicker texture and don't mind occasional crystallisation, raw honey is worth trying
  • If you want a honey that pours easily and stays consistent, regular clear honey is the more practical choice
  • Both work equally well in tea, baking and on toast — the difference is texture and processing, not really function

Neither is inherently "better" for cooking — choose based on the texture you prefer.

Fair question — tahini is savoury, not sweet, so it looks like an odd fit next to honey and jam at first glance.

The reason it sits in this category is about how it's used, not how it tastes. Tahini is a spread — something you put on toast, stir into a dressing, or add to hummus — which puts it in the same shopping mission as honey and jam, even though the flavour profile is completely different.

A few practical things to know if you're new to tahini:

  • It's made from ground sesame seeds, with a slightly bitter, nutty flavour
  • It's a common base for hummus, and also works well drizzled over roasted vegetables or stirred into salad dressings
  • Light tahini (hulled seeds) has a milder flavour than dark tahini (unhulled seeds), which is more bitter and intense

If you're browsing this collection expecting only sweet options, it's worth knowing tahini and yeast extract are here too — both are spreads, just from the savoury end of the shelf.

These three often get mixed up, but they come from different sources and behave differently in recipes.

Golden syrup is a light, amber-coloured syrup made from refined sugar cane or beet, with a mild, buttery-caramel flavour — a common choice for flapjacks and puddings.

Treacle (black treacle) is darker and more bitter, a by-product of the sugar refining process, and gives gingerbread and Christmas cake their deep, slightly smoky flavour.

Maple syrup comes from an entirely different source — the sap of maple trees — with a distinct, woody sweetness unlike either golden syrup or treacle.

If a recipe specifically calls for one of these, it's generally best not to substitute, since the flavour and colour of the finished dish will change noticeably. Golden syrup and treacle can sometimes be blended in recipes that call for a mix, but maple syrup is different enough in flavour that it's usually better used in dishes built around it — pancakes, for example — rather than swapped in for the other two.

Yeast extract is one of the more unexpected products to find alongside honey and jam, so it's worth explaining what it actually is.

It's made from spent brewer's yeast, broken down and concentrated into a dark, intensely savoury spread — the flavour is often described as salty and umami rather than sweet in any way.

How it differs from the other spreads in this collection:

  • Unlike honey, jam or syrup, it's used sparingly — a thin scrape on toast is typical, rather than a generous spread
  • It's often used as a flavouring ingredient in cooking (stirred into gravies or stews) rather than only eaten on its own
  • It's naturally vegan, making it a popular way to add savoury depth to dishes without meat-based ingredients

If you haven't tried it before, start with a small jar and a thin layer — the taste is distinctive and doesn't suit everyone the way honey or jam typically do.

Product and price are both 5 star. Courier awful. Tracking less than useless but seriously, these items are fabulous. And this was definitely the best price I’ve seen. I’ll put up with the longer delivery time. It’s not the seller’s fault at all. I’m telling all my T2D friends about these. The only crisp type snack...

value for money, so tired of throwing fresh berries in food bin due to their condition. These are organic, freeze dried nearly 100% as good as fresh berries, and more importantly none will be thrown away. once opened will last 2 months.

Good quality product, higher dha/epa than others, being in a foiled pouch helps keep fresh and doesn't allow light to oxidise as fast as clear packaging. Recommended.
