Vetiver essential oil is derived from the rootlets of a grass native to many regions of India, Sri Lanka, and other parts of Asia. The rootlets undergo a careful process of drying, cutting, chopping, and soaking in water before distillation to extract the oil. While the grass is cultivated worldwide for distillation, the most renowned producers are Haiti and Java, known for their superior quality oils. Indian vetiver oil is generally of lower quality and mainly used in local soap and perfume industries.
This Vetiver oil is sourced from Haiti, selected by Absolute Aromas for its exceptional purity and aroma. Unlike many Javan producers who burn the grass before harvesting the rootsimparting a smoky noteHaitian producers cut the grass and repurpose it for cattle feed or mats, resulting in a cleaner, fresher scent. The oil itself is thick and viscous with deep, precious wood undertones, making it highly valued in aromatherapy and perfumery.
Due to its viscosity, dispensing Vetiver oil requires patience; gentle warming of the bottle in the hands or warm water can help ease pouring. This oil blends beautifully with other essential oils to create luxurious massage oils and soothing bath blends. For a rich massage oil, combine 1 drop each of Vetiver, Jasmine, and Sandalwood essential oils in 10ml of Peach Kernel oil. To alleviate muscle aches and promote relaxation on cold nights, add 1 drop each of Vetiver, Patchouli, and Lavender oils to a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil and swirl into a warm bath.
