Bioreal

Q: What's the difference between active dry yeast and nutritional yeast flakes?

Active dry yeast is a live leavening agent used in bread-making, which needs activating (usually in warm water) before adding to a dough recipe so it rises. Nutritional yeast flakes are an inactive, deactivated yeast product used as a savoury seasoning, often sprinkled on food for a cheesy, umami flavour -- it does not make bread rise. Bioreal's active dry yeast comes in small 5x9g sachets or a bulk 500g pack, so you can choose based on how often you bake. Don't substitute one for the other in a recipe -- they serve completely different purposes despite both being yeast-based.

Bioreal makes organic baking ingredients, covering active dry yeast for bread-making, nutritional yeast flakes, and gluten-free baking powder.

Is the Baking Powder gluten-free?

Yes, Bioreal's Organic Baking Powder is specifically labelled gluten-free, sold in a 1kg bakery-size pack.

Why would I buy the bulk 500g yeast instead of the small sachets?

The bulk 500g pack works out more economical for regular or high-volume bread-making, while the 5x9g sachets suit occasional bakers who want pre-measured portions.

How is nutritional yeast used in cooking?

It's typically sprinkled directly onto food (like popcorn, pasta or salads) as a savoury seasoning, rather than mixed into a dough or batter.

How should yeast be stored?

Store in a cool, dry place as directed on the pack, and check the use-by date, since yeast loses effectiveness over time once opened.

Let’s Hear What Our Customers Have To Say

Product and price are both 5 star. Courier awful. Tracking less than useless but seriously, these items are fabulous. And this was definitely the best price I’ve seen. I’ll put up with the longer delivery time. It’s not the seller’s fault at all. I’m telling all my T2D friends about these. The only crisp type snack...

Good quality product, higher dha/epa than others, being in a foiled pouch helps keep fresh and doesn't allow light to oxidise as fast as clear packaging. Recommended.
