Frequently Asked Questions

Dark soy sauce is thicker, less salty and more intensely flavoured, often used for colour and depth in marinades, stir-fries and braises. Light soy sauce is thinner and saltier, more commonly used as a general table condiment or seasoning during cooking where you want saltiness without heavy colour.

If a recipe specifies one type, it's worth using that specific one rather than substituting, since they behave differently in a dish -- particularly around colour and saltiness.

Blue Dragon's Mirin Seasoning is a separate ingredient again, a sweet Japanese cooking wine used alongside soy sauce in many Japanese recipes rather than as a substitute for it.

Panko is a Japanese-style breadcrumb, lighter and crispier than standard breadcrumbs, commonly used for coating foods before frying or baking to get a crunchier finish.

Extra Firm Silken Tofu is a protein ingredient used in stir-fries, soups or as a meat substitute, while Medium Egg Noodles are a carbohydrate base for noodle dishes -- they're used together in many recipes rather than as alternatives to each other.

Soy sauce is generally shelf-stable unopened and can be kept in a cool cupboard; refrigeration after opening can help preserve flavour over a longer period, though many people keep it in the cupboard.

Standard soy sauce typically contains wheat -- check individual product labels carefully if you need gluten-free options, since this varies by product.

Let’s Hear What Our Customers Have To Say

Product and price are both 5 star. Courier awful. Tracking less than useless but seriously, these items are fabulous. And this was definitely the best price I’ve seen. I’ll put up with the longer delivery time. It’s not the seller’s fault at all. I’m telling all my T2D friends about these. The only crisp type snack...

Good quality product, higher dha/epa than others, being in a foiled pouch helps keep fresh and doesn't allow light to oxidise as fast as clear packaging. Recommended.
