Mood & Emotional Wellbeing old

Everyday emotional wellbeing means different things to different people, which is why this collection brings together eight of the most searched-for natural options, each working in a different way.

What's in this range:

  • Ashwagandha and Rhodiola — adaptogenic herbs long used in traditional practice, popular among customers exploring natural stress-related options.
  • L-Theanine — an amino acid found naturally in tea, often chosen alongside caffeine or on its own.
  • 5-HTP — a compound involved in the body's serotonin production pathway.
  • St John's Wort — a traditional herbal extract, though one with important medication interactions to be aware of.
  • Lavender and Maca — traditional botanical choices, the latter more commonly associated with energy and hormonal balance.
  • Rescue — the well-known Bach flower remedy range.

None of these ingredients currently holds an authorised UK/EU health claim for mood or stress, so we've focused on being clear about what each one is. Our FAQs below cover the practical differences, and important safety notes for a couple of these ingredients.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's no single "best" choice, since these ingredients work in different ways and suit different situations:

  • Ashwagandha and rhodiola are both traditional adaptogenic herbs, generally taken as an ongoing daily supplement rather than for immediate effect.
  • L-theanine is often taken alongside caffeine (it's naturally found in tea) or on its own, and some people use it situationally rather than daily.
  • 5-HTP relates to the body's serotonin pathway and is typically taken as a standalone daily supplement.
  • St John's Wort is a traditional herbal option, but carries significant medication interactions (see our separate FAQ on this).
  • Lavender, maca and Rescue are more traditional, situational or preference-based choices.

None of these currently holds an authorised UK/EU claim for mood or stress, so this is genuinely a personal-preference decision rather than one with a clearly "superior" option — many customers try one at a time to see what suits their routine.

This is an important one to get right. Ashwagandha has become extremely popular, but there are genuine safety considerations worth knowing before starting it:

  • UK and EU regulators have received rare reports of liver-related issues linked to ashwagandha supplements, and are continuing to monitor this.
  • It's generally advised against during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • It may not be suitable if you have a thyroid condition, as it can affect thyroid hormone levels.
  • It can interact with certain medications, including sedatives, thyroid medication, and immunosuppressants.

This doesn't mean ashwagandha is unsafe for everyone, but given these considerations, we'd recommend checking with your GP or pharmacist before starting it, particularly if you take any regular medication or have an existing health condition. As with any new supplement, starting at a lower dose and monitoring how you feel is a sensible approach.

These work through entirely different pathways, so it's worth understanding the distinction. L-theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea, and is commonly taken alongside caffeine (some customers find this combination suits focus-related situations) or independently. 5-HTP is a compound the body uses in its serotonin production pathway, generally taken as a standalone daily supplement rather than situationally. One important safety note: 5-HTP shouldn't be combined with antidepressant medication without medical advice, since both affect serotonin activity, whereas L-theanine doesn't carry this same specific interaction. If you're on any prescribed medication, it's always worth checking with a pharmacist before adding either to your routine.

This varies significantly by ingredient, so it's worth checking each individually rather than assuming they're all equally safe to combine with medication:

  • St John's Wort has the most well-documented interactions — it affects how the liver processes a wide range of medications, including antidepressants, contraceptive pills and blood thinners.
  • 5-HTP shouldn't be combined with antidepressants due to shared effects on serotonin.
  • Ashwagandha can interact with thyroid medication, sedatives and immunosuppressants.
  • Rhodiola, L-theanine, lavender, maca and Rescue generally carry fewer documented interactions, though this doesn't mean risk-free for everyone.

If you take any regular prescribed medication, checking with your GP or pharmacist before starting any new supplement in this collection is the safest approach — this applies especially to St John's Wort and 5-HTP given the interactions above.

Some combinations are more commonly used together than others, but we'd encourage caution rather than assuming more is better. L-theanine and ashwagandha are sometimes used together as they work through different mechanisms, but starting with one at a time makes it easier to notice how each affects you individually. Combining 5-HTP with St John's Wort isn't something we'd recommend without medical guidance, since both can influence serotonin activity through different routes. As a general approach, we'd suggest introducing one new ingredient at a time, giving it a few weeks to assess how it suits you, and speaking to a pharmacist before combining several at once — particularly if any of them are already on your radar due to a specific health condition or existing medication.

Excellent in every way.

I do recommend this company. I ordered from Greece, the VAT was correctly applied, and customs form correctly filled in, so had nil delays at customs. The bottles were very well packed and most of all the vitamins had expiry dates to November 2028, which I do appreciate, as I was stocking up. It is a pleasure dealing with caring professionals such as yourselves.
