Home Baking

Our Home Baking range covers the equipment and craft side of baking — cake tins and kitchenware, decorating supplies, candy making kits and cookie cutters. Looking for flour, sugar or baking mixes instead? Those live in our Baking & Ingredients collection.

Shop by Type

  • Cake baking equipment — tins, moulds, kitchenware and baking kits
  • Cake decorating — icing, food colouring, piping bags, toppers and sprinkles
  • Candy making — moulds, melting candy and sweet wrapping supplies
  • Kids baking — sets and tools designed for younger bakers

What to Check Before You Buy

  • Tin size matters — check the size stated in a recipe before buying, since swapping tin sizes changes baking time
  • Food-safe vs decorative — some cake toppers and glitter are edible, others are for decoration only; always check the packaging
  • Reusable vs single-use — piping bags, moulds and cutters vary between reusable and disposable options

Building a full baking kit, or just topping up on one item? Our FAQs below cover a few common questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

If a recipe doesn't specify a tin size, or you want to use a different one than stated, a few adjustments keep the result consistent.

  • Check the volume, not just the diameter — two tins with the same diameter but different depths hold different amounts of mixture
  • Smaller tin than specified — the mixture will be deeper, so it needs a longer baking time at a slightly lower temperature to cook through without burning the top
  • Larger tin than specified — the mixture will be shallower, so it bakes faster and needs checking earlier than the recipe states
  • Round vs square — a same-sized square tin holds slightly more mixture than a round one, since there's no wasted space in the corners

If you're changing tin size, adjust baking time by checking the cake regularly rather than trusting the original recipe's timing exactly. A skewer test — inserting a thin skewer into the centre and checking it comes out clean — is more reliable than following the clock alone.

Not everything decorative on a cake is meant to be eaten, and it's a genuinely easy mix-up to make.

Edible glitter and sprinkles are made from food-safe ingredients and are designed to be eaten along with the cake — always check the packaging specifically states "edible."

Non-toxic or decorative-only glitter is sometimes sold for cake displays and photography, but isn't intended to be consumed, even though it looks similar to the edible version.

A few practical checks before you buy or use a product:

  • Look for "edible" stated clearly on the packaging, not just "non-toxic" — these aren't the same thing
  • If you're decorating a cake for a child, double-check with more care, since children may not distinguish between decoration and food the way an adult would
  • When in doubt, remove non-edible decorations before serving rather than assuming a small amount is fine

If a product doesn't clearly state it's edible, it's safest to treat it as decorative only.

These three are the most common cake coverings, and they behave quite differently once applied.

Fondant icing is a smooth, pliable sugar paste that's rolled out and draped over a cake, giving a clean, matte finish — ideal for structured designs, sharp edges and toppers that need a firm surface.

Buttercream is a soft, spreadable mixture of butter and icing sugar, giving a softer, more textured finish — commonly used for everyday cakes, piping details and layering between sponges.

Royal icing is a hard-setting mixture of icing sugar and egg white (or a substitute), used mainly for fine piping detail, decorating biscuits, and decorations that need to hold their shape once dry.

Practical guidance:

  • For a smooth, professional-looking finish, fondant is the standard choice
  • For everyday cakes and simple piping, buttercream is the easiest to work with
  • For intricate, fine detail like piped lettering, royal icing sets hard enough to hold its shape

Most celebration cakes combine buttercream as a base layer with fondant or royal icing for the finished decoration.

Some candy making genuinely needs specific equipment, while other recipes can be done with tools you likely already have.

Equipment worth having specifically for candy making:

  • A sugar thermometer — most candy recipes rely on reaching a precise temperature, which is difficult to judge accurately without one
  • Silicone candy moulds — standard baking trays don't give the same shape or release set candy cleanly
  • Heatproof spatulas — for stirring hot sugar or melted chocolate safely

What you can usually reuse from standard baking:

  • Saucepans and mixing bowls
  • Baking parchment, for lining trays while candy sets
  • Standard kitchen scales

If you're trying candy making for the first time, a sugar thermometer is the one piece of equipment worth buying specifically, since getting the temperature right is the difference between candy setting properly and not setting at all. Everything else can usually wait.

Let’s Hear What Our Customers Have To Say

Product and price are both 5 star. Courier awful. Tracking less than useless but seriously, these items are fabulous. And this was definitely the best price I’ve seen. I’ll put up with the longer delivery time. It’s not the seller’s fault at all. I’m telling all my T2D friends about these. The only crisp type snack...

Good quality product, higher dha/epa than others, being in a foiled pouch helps keep fresh and doesn't allow light to oxidise as fast as clear packaging. Recommended.
